Packout Bag
This is a packout bag I designed and created. There is a lot of gear to carry when working as a smokejumper. These packout bags serve as a means for carrying all of our jump gear which includes kevlar pants and jacket, a reserve and main parachute, and a helmet. The packout bags we are currently supplied with are not large enough and have only shoulder straps. After doing a 15km packout with 100lbs on my back and no hip belt or chest strap I decided to create my own bag. This bag is made from heavy duty cordura, nylon webbing and has a waterproof zipper on the back for easy access to gear. There's a draw cord at the top for closing the bag as well as numerous webbing synch straps to keep the internal load from moving. The hardest part of the design was creating an internal frame structure that would have some rigidity while the bag was in use but could still be rolled up and fit into a leg bag pocket during jump operations.
